HBS1L protein
HBS1L protein: a core GTPase of the ribosome rescue pathway and an emerging target in multiple disease areas
This article focuses on the molecular characteristics and biological functions of HBS1L, systematically elaborating its molecular mechanisms as a translational GTPase that forms a complex with PELO to recognize stalled ribosomes, dissociate ribosomal subunits, and initiate the nonsense-mediated decay pathway. It analyzes its initiating role in ribosome-associated quality control and the physiological significance of clearing abnormal mRNAs and incomplete polypeptides, and explores the disease associations of HBS1L in FOCAD-deletion synthetic lethality in tumors, hemoglobin regulation, and hereditary eye diseases.
