Exploring CD68/SR-D1: a hallmark molecule and multifunctional receptor of macrophages
CD68 (also known as SR-D1) is a highly glycosylated transmembrane protein belonging to the scavenger receptor D family. Its gene is located on human chromosome 17p13, and its protein structure includes a lysosome associated membrane protein (LAMP) - like domain and multiple glycosylation sites, which makes it mainly localized on lysosomes and cell membranes within cells.
