ACVR2A Recombinant Protein: A Core Node of the TGF-β Superfamily Bridging Erythropoiesis and Metabolic Regulation
This article focuses on the molecular characteristics and signal transduction functions of activin receptor type IIA (ACVR2A), systematically elaborating the molecular mechanisms by which it, as a type II receptor serine/threonine kinase of the TGF-β superfamily, regulates three major physiological processes—erythropoiesis, skeletal muscle mass, and lipid metabolism—through binding to ligands such as activin, myostatin, and GDF11; analyzing its overactivation in ineffective erythropoiesis in β-thalassemia and myelodysplastic syndromes and the therapeutic principles of ligand trap strategies; and exploring its expanded application prospects in pulmonary arterial hypertension, preeclampsia, and metabolic diseases.
